Faith, History & Structural Grandeur Across Kampala's Hills

Location: Kikaya Hill, Gayaza Road. Opened in 1961 as the Mother Temple of Africa (one of only eight worldwide). Designed by Charles Mason Remey, it features a Persian-inspired dome, Italian mosaic roof tiles, and Belgian stained glass set within 52 acres of tranquil hilltop gardens.

Location: Namugongo. Consecrated in 1975 on the site where 32 young Christian converts were executed between 1885 and 1887 under Kabaka Mwanga II. The modern basilica is engineered like a traditional African hut, supported by 22 copper pillars representing the 22 Catholic martyrs.

Location: local hilltop restaurant. Rest and dine on a scenic outdoor terrace enjoying a mix of continental and Ugandan dishes.

Location: Namirembe Hill (St. Paul's Cathedral). The oldest diocesan cathedral in the Church of Uganda, completed in its current brick form in 1919 after earlier structures were destroyed. Perched high above the city, it features an immense roof span, historical churchyard graves, and panoramic views of downtown.

Location: Rubaga Hill. Built by the French White Fathers and completed in 1925 on land gifted by King Muteesa I in 1879. The cathedral features Romanesque architecture, striking twin bell towers, beautiful stained-glass windows, and peaceful grounds overlooking Kabaka's Lake.
